Libyan Desert Glass is a beautiful naturally occurring glass made of nearly pure silica. It is thought to have been formed by a large meteoritic air burst melting the sand of the Libyan Desert into a layer of glass approximately 28 million years ago. Consistent with this theory, traces of irridium and other meteorititic components have been found within this beautiful naturally occurring Glass. Libyan Desert glass has fascinated man for Millennia and the ancient Egyptians used it in their finest jewelry.
