Damascus steel is special type of steel that is durable, flexible and beautiful. The first two characteristics made it ideal for use in ancient edged weapons. The process of making Damascus originated near Damascus, Syria around 900 A.D. Damascus steel was originally used to make exceptional quality swords. In ancient times, Damascus swords were highly prized and were believed to be able to actually cut through the swords of European Knights. Damascus steel is forged from two different alloys of steel. These disimilar steels are heat forged into a billet which can then be forged into high quality knives, swords or jewelry. A number of beautiful patterns can be made in the steel by folding, and twisting the Damascus billet. When etched with an acid solution the different steels produce exceptionally beautiful patterns characteristic of Damascus steel.
Stainless Damascus is forged from two different alloys of Stainless steel, producing an extremely durable and beautiful steel.
